The Blob
2014 The project explores the technique of casting plaster, measuring, reproducing, and translation. It starts with casting plaster in the balloon, to study how different applications of forces can affect the form, and to use these models as a study of measuring and representation.
|
Then, a series of balloon-in-the-balloon models are cast and cut. Different methods to generate various sizes of the inner balloon are tested to generate different interior void of the plaster. A series of sectional models of gradually changing inner voids are produced. The models are cut and exhibited.

A case study of the Palazzo del Capitaniato in Venice, Italy is done to explore the proportion and the inter-relationships of the elements of the building. Then, the study result is applied to analyze the serial plaster models. Also, a new model made with soap is made to translate the combined concept of the case study and the plaster models. These studies are also applied in another project The Porch House.
