Guanpu Elementary School In the harsh concrete city of Hsinchu, the classrooms of Guanpu Elementary School are like the fallen leaves in autumn, touch the ground softly, so the kids can run through freely. Until they learn that nature is always within, not without. The design of the campus foresees spaces that support holistic education activities in indoor, outdoor, and the in-between spaces. The whole campus is free for children to run, hide, discover, play, and learn. Each classroom is a separate building, forming a "village settlement", and the semi-outdoor learning spaces with different levels of intimacy supports various kinds of activities. This is a winning competition project I worked on when I was an intern at Fieldoffice Architects. The campus is under construction now, with part of it already completed in 2018. |
